Notarization is an important attestation by a public official witnessing the (1) parties identity and (2) signature(s) on a document. Because transactions may be between virtual strangers, notarization serves to protect all parties by assuring their identities and that they have personally affixed their signature(s) to a document. Notaries are expected to be impartial, unbiased and without a financial interest in the agreements they notarize.
